A prediction market for codius (like augur for ethereum)
I consider a prediction market a kind of canonical application for a smart contract platform. It is similar to a derivatives market in which a bet is settled. How would a codius version of a prediction market work and be different from something like augur? Augur is decentralized and clients connect via a special application to the ethereum blockchain. So you get a distributed and decentralized network for free and you get a way to settle in the form of ether. Codius does not have a dedicated blockchain and would rely on http or maybe tcp for a network so there is no built in decentralized access unless there is some routing layer. How would a decentralized application like a prediction market work on codius?

“Codius works differently than smart contracts in Bitcoin or Ethereum. The contracts run on independent hosts without an underlying blockchain, similar to traditional hosting. This allows them to interact with any service or API, scale infinitely, and read from or write to any blockchain. The key challenge of smart contracts — interoperability — was solved.” Codius is officially back and is being launched under a new company called Coil. This is big news for a number of reasons. First, Codius isn't being launched by Ripple. Second, Codius will change the smart contracts game. Third, Codius could kill Ethereum (ETH). Read more inside. I’d say most of the differences stem from the fact that Ethereum is a blockchain and Codius is not, which results in Ethereum imposing more restrictions on network participants (miners and users): Payment. Ethereum - Users spend ETH to pay for decentralized application (dapp) execution. Miners are likewise paid in ETH. Codius - Users and hosts transact in the Interledger-enabled assets of ... At the end of his blog post on Codius, former Ripple CTO Stefan Thomas winds up by writing, “Here’s to smart contracts that aren’t terrible!” Smart contracts have been around for a few years and are synonymous with the Ethereum platform. He says that one of his significant assignments at Ripple was to design its smart contracts system. Ethereum’s blockchain has working examples of this phenomenon, but their technological intricacy holds them back from entering the mainstream, something Ripple XRP hopes to change. Former CTO of Ripple, Stefan Thomas, announces the revival of the smart contract platform, Codius.
